Nutrition/Health Manager General Description:
Implements and manages the nutrition component of the Head Start and Child Care programs to ensure compliance with all regulations.
Implements and manages the health and safety component of the Head Start and Cognia program to ensure compliance with all regulations.
Supervision Received:
Work is performed under direct supervision of the Head Start Director.
Supervision Exercised:
Direct supervision of cooks and assistant cooks.
Education:
Bachelors Required - Food/Nutritional Science, Family & Consumer Science, or directly related field.
Training And
Experience:
Preferred Experience (6 months - 3 years) - Head Start, Child Care or public school setting and supervisor experience.
Required Experience (6 months - 3 years) - Maintaining budgets and various accounts.
Supervision Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and implementation of the nutrition component for both Head Start and Child Care programs.
Responsible for overall planning, coordination and implementation of the health component for the Head Start program.
Develops menus with the guidance of the Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services to ensure nutritional meals and snacks are provided for the Head Start and Child Care programs.
Works directly with other content managers to plan program operations as indicated by all federal, state, and tribal standards and regulations for the Head Start and Child Care programs.
Responsible for maintaining and updating the Head Start nutrition and health service plans.
Ensures that special diets for children under medical attention are provided and ensures that their nutritional needs are met.
Attends and ensures all kitchen personnel attend required trainings and maintain necessary certifications.
Identifies and creates collaborative agreements with local, state and tribal resources as needed for the nutrition and health components for Head Start and Child Care.
Makes routine visits to all centers for regular kitchen and meal time inspections.
Ensures kitchen personnel maintain menu planning books and accurate inventory for the USDA and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Maintains knowledge of local, state and federal sanitary standards and ensures kitchen personnel follow all standards.
Responsible for completing monthly nutrition and health on-going monitoring reports for the Head Start program.
Monitors and ensures that individual student files and health records are updated for all Head Start children at least annually.
Responsible for monitoring and inputting student information in the Head Start computerized child tracking system.
Maintains medical equipment re-certification and inventory.
Responsible for implementing the dental health program which includes ordering of toothbrushes and toothpaste for the Head Start and Child Care children at least three times during the year.
Responsible for collecting, compiling, and submitting a report to the State Department of Education for the reimbursement of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) on a monthly basis for the Head Start and Child Care programs.
Responsible for completing and submitting the yearly Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) application for the Head Start and Child Care programs.
Responsible for oversight of the budget and expenditure analysis (cuff accounts) of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the Head Start and Child Care programs.
Collaborates to provide and attends health fairs and health advisory meetings for each Head Start center.
Coordinates and serves as the nutrition and health self- assessment committee chairperson for the Head Start program.
Responsible for processing invoices and requisitions for all Head Start and Child Care food purchases.
Ensures collection of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) enrollment and eligibility forms for each child in the Head Start and Child Care programs.
Attends and offers program updates regarding nutrition and health components at all Head Start Policy Council meetings.
Attends Head Start and Child Care staff trainings as required.
Collaborates with Center Supervisors and mamagers to ensure children's needs are met and they are receiving attention and appropriate services for health related follow up screenings.
Responsible for insuring all playground areas and facilities are safe and in good repair.
Maintains monthly reports to track all emergency drills, playground inspections and cleaning/sanatizing schedules.
Responsible to travel to all centers to conduct reviews and monitor site safety procedures.
Responsible for annual review and updates of facilities/safe enviroment service plan.
Coordinates efforts with OEH to develop and maintain safety and health checks that are routinelu completed and in accordance with state, tribal and if applicable federal regulations.
Coordinates with center supervisors and maintenance department to make sure work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
Responsible for planning and providing required trainings for all staff that need inital or ongoing trainings to meet the minimum health and safety program standards.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Preferred - Familiar with the American Indian culture, public schools, Head Start and Child Care practices.
Preferred - Knowledge of the methods and practices used in food preparations, serving and storage.
Preferred - Be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Required - Knowledge of budgets and maintaining cuff accounts.
Preferred - Knowledge of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Licenses, Certifications, Other:
Required - Current, valid driver's license.
Required - Background check.
Physical Requirements:
Required - Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Required - Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in office setting with regular travel to Early Childhood centers, some outside of regular business hours.
