Environmental Health Coordinator General Description:
The Environmental Health Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the integrity and standardization of assigned health and safety practices across the Department of Family Services.
This position ensures the environmental health and quality of care for individuals serviced and employees, along with the effective implementation and utilization within a variety of facilities and offices.
Supervision Received:
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director, of Operations.
Supervision Exercised:
None Supervision Essential Job Functions:
Maintain a good working knowledge of the Chickasaw Nation's mission, vision, core values, policies, and procedures with respect to the DFS.
Acts as a resource for medication management-related issues.
Develop and support a workplace culture of health and safety.
Identifying health hazards and providing solutions and intervention strategies for hygiene and health hazards.
Implementing new health protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
Monitoring health and safety processes and activities within department facilities/programs/services.
Conducts assigned inspections of facilities and settings, which may include settings with applicable safety and health requirements.
Keeping abreast of the latest environmental health trends, policies, regulations, and best practices.
Coordinates the ongoing planning, implementation, and revision of the infection prevention and control (IPC) plan and associated policies or procedures to ensure the integrity and standardization of IPC practices.
Collaborates with the appropriate committee(s), department leadership, and designated facility/program staff to identify, implement, and evaluate pertinent elements of the environmental health of DFS.
Coordinates and assists with planning infection prevention and control efforts for department, facility, and program employees including approved training, plan development, indicator and outcome development, and data analysis, and makes recommendations for improvement actions necessary to promote healthy outcomes.
Tracks, monitors, and reports statistical analysis and trending of health-related risks, infection prevention and control, environmental health, and quality data indicators.
Serves as a content expert regarding variance reporting of health-related safety events for the department.
Collaborates with key personnel, internal support, and shared services within the Chickasaw Nation that have pre-determined duties associated with maintaining standards for infection prevention and control.
Facilitates and conducts meetings and participates in assigned committees, task forces, work groups, and multi-disciplinary teams as directed.
Researches, compiles, synthesizes, analyzes, and interprets information and data necessary to meet environmental health objectives.
Coordinates environmental health projects, defines problems and alternative solutions, and sets objectives with line of support assistance.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required - Must be knowledgeable regarding federal, state and tribal infection prevention and control.
Required - Must be knowledgeable of, maintain, and adhere to rules, laws, and regulations regarding strict confidentiality of all information and data received.
Required - Must possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Required - Must be able to problem solve rapidly, and read, analyze and interpret complex data.
Required - Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs.
Required - Must have knowledge in performance improvement relative to mental health, human services, or education.
Required - Must be able to produce timely reports, and grammatically correct office memorandums, business letters, and other written plans/projects.
Required - Willing to work irregular hours and weekends as needed or required by job duties.
Preferred - Must have an empathic understanding of substance use and mental health-related conditions.
Preferred - Must be sensitive to First American culture.
Education:
Bachelors Preferred - Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Environmental Health, or Occupational Safety and Health and/or an active Oklahoma RN license.
Education Note:
Training And
Experience:
Preferred Training (3 -5 years) - Must have at least 3 years' experience in environmental health.
Preferred Training (6 months - 3 years) - One or more years familiarity of with Joint Commissions or other national accreditation in health care quality, infection prevention and control or willingness to learn and develop competency.
Licenses, Certifications, Other:
Preferred - Nursing License Required - Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license with a good driving record Required - Must be insurable Required - Must be able to pass a background check and complete a pre-employment drug test with a negative result.
Physical Requirements:
Required - Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Requires standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
Required - Must be able to lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Work Environment:
The work environment is representative of two settings:
inside and outside an office.
o While performing job duties, the employee may sit at a desk, view a computer monitor, and use a keyboard for long periods of time, o The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
